St. Joseph University in Chümoukedima observed Anti-ragging Week with awareness programmes, speeches, and slogan competitions.

DIMAPUR — The Anti-ragging Committee of St. Joseph University organised an anti-ragging programme in commemoration of Anti-ragging Day and Anti-ragging Week observed from August 12 to the 18th at its premises in Chümoukedima.
According to an update, it aimed to create awareness on the serious implications of ragging and the importance of promoting a culture of respect and empathy. The UG students from all departments of the 3rd semester attended the programme.
Dr. V Tiruppathi Vasagan, dean of Social Sciences and Management Studies, on the occasion, delivered a speech on the importance of creating a safe and respectful environment in educational institutions and the consequences of ragging.

He further emphasised “Youth against ragging”, highlighting how young people can play a vital role in taking a stand against ragging, condemning the act, and promoting awareness about its effects to create a safe, ragging-free environment.
The winners of the previously held surprise slogan competition on August 8 were also announced.
“Ragging ruins lives – Respect and build the future” by Zhoseto Dozo, MA Economics, 3rd Semester, secured the first place. “Not an act to please, ragging needs to be ceased” by Asma Shaik, M.Sc. Physics, 3rd Semester, was awarded second place. The third place went to “The weak bullies the weaker. Are you weak? Say no to Ragging” by Shoyang B Phom, MA English, 3rd Semester.
