ANTA Dimapur has urged the Nagaland government to expedite the implementation of the Vehicle Location Tracking Device (VLTD) system, citing delays in vehicle registration, financial losses for commercial vehicle owners, and the need to enhance passenger safety.
DIMAPUR — The All Nagaland Taxi Association (ANTA), Dimapur Unit, has urged the Government of Nagaland and the Transport department to expedite the implementation of the Vehicle Location Tracking Device (VLTD) system, stating that the prolonged delay has caused significant hardship to commercial vehicle owners across the state.
In a press release, the association said the Supreme Court has directed the implementation of the VLTD system for commercial passenger vehicles as part of measures to strengthen passenger safety and improve accountability in public transport.
However, the system has yet to be implemented in Nagaland, resulting in serious inconvenience for vehicle owners.
The association stated that hundreds of commercial vehicle owners have invested substantial sums in purchasing new vehicles with the expectation of beginning operations.
However, many have been unable to complete registration formalities or obtain the required documents because the VLTD system is not operational in the state.
According to ANTA, several owners who purchased commercial vehicles nearly seven months ago are still awaiting registration solely due to the delay in implementing the VLTD system.
As a result, they have been unable to commence commercial operations despite making significant financial investments, leading to loss of income and financial hardship for families dependent on the transport sector.
The association also expressed concern over insurance claims and statutory compliance, stating that the absence of an operational VLTD system has created uncertainty for commercial vehicle owners and exposed them to potential legal and financial risks despite their willingness to comply with all regulatory requirements.

The association appealed to the state government to immediately roll out the VLTD system, establish adequate authorised installation centres, and facilitate the early completion of pending registration and other statutory formalities for commercial vehicles.
Expressing hope for early government intervention, the ANTA Dimapur said it remains committed to extending full cooperation in ensuring the successful implementation of the VLTD system and urged the authorities to resolve the long-pending issue without further delay.
