KOHIMA — The Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) has extended the local and zonal taxi permit verification drive till July 2, after which no taxis without the verification sticker will be allowed to ply in Kohima.
This was informed to media persons by the AYO members on Saturday.
The AYO initially set June 24-28 for taxi verification but extended it to July 2 due to many taxis yet to comply.
They AYO reported overwhelming response to taxi verification drive, registering 1,427 local and regional taxis so far. Verification stickers for some taxis are pending due to incomplete documentation or owner/driver absence, they said.

The AYO members also informed that the verification drive deadline was extended following an emergency meeting, where they cited a large turnout and omissions of certain taxi stands in their initial press statement, which left many taxis uncovered.
Accordingly, local and regional taxis which are yet to register or could not be accommodated on the specific date, may avail the verification on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. After July 2, they will not be entertaining any more verification for taxis which are registered prior to the number NL01CA0703.
Taxis not registered by July 2 will be assumed to have forged documents, questionable ownership, or invalid papers. Post-deadline, only taxis with verified permits will be allowed to operate.
After July 2, they informed that they will be conducting physical verification as there is no point in just table verification without going to the field.
