DIMAPUR — The Angami Women Organisation (AWO) has condemned the recent incident in Kohima where an organised sex trafficking racket was uncovered, involving trafficking and exploitation of a minor girl.

In a press release, the AWO stated that the arrest of nine individuals, including the mastermind, exposed a painful reality that such illegal and unwanted activities are happening in the society.

“These practices are completely alien to our Naga culture, values and way of life. As Nagas, we uphold the dignity of every individual especially of our women and children.

“The exploitation of the vulnerable is not only a grave crime but also a moral degradation and an assault on humanity,” the AWO stated.

While appreciating the prompt and courageous action taken by Kohima Police in rescuing a minor girl and the arrest of nine accused, the organisation urged the authorities to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to a swift and uncompromising justice without any leniency, and that such networks are rooted out completely.

“The AWO remains committed to upholding and safeguarding the dignity of women and children, and to combating all forms of abuse against them.

While lauding the Nagaland Police for successfully busting the racket, we also pledge our full support in the collect effort to eradicate this grave menace from our society,” it stated.

Further, the AWO appealed to all citizens, particularly parents, community leaders and institutions, to remain vigilant and work together to ensure that “such alien and destructive practices find no place in our land.”

“This incident must awaken us all to the responsibility that trafficking, prostitution and sexual exploitation must be confronted collectively, with a strong resolve to safeguard our women, children and society at large.”
