DIMAPUR — The Angami Students' Union (ASU) has expressed concern that the ongoing RMSA teachers' 2016 batch agitation is hampering the functioning of schools and the smooth conduct of education, creating uncertainty to the students' community.

In a press release, the ASU recalled that the Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench, and the Supreme Court of India have already delivered “clear and conclusive judgements on the matter.”

The student body urged the state government to respect and implement the court rulings without any further delay as prolonged inaction will only deepen the crisis.

In this connection, the union also extended its support to the ultimatum served on September 17 by the Naga Students' Federation (NSF). It reiterated that failure to act within the stipulated time, the union shall be compelled to consider firm steps in the larger interest of the students.

The ASU also appealed to the RMSA teachers to recognise that while their concerns may be genuine, the academic future of innocent students must not be held in uncertainty.

“We therefore urge the teachers to come to an understanding and resume classes at the earliest, even as the process of addressing their grievances continues through the proper channels.

“The Union reiterates that the welfare of the students' community is its foremost concern. We call upon both the state government and the teachers to resolve the issue responsibly and without delay, keeping the greater good of the students above all else,” the union added.
