DIMAPUR — The Angami Baptist Church Council (ABCC) has reiterated its commitment to uphold the NLTP Act 1989, and to steadfastly support the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) in its fight against the ills of liquor.
In a press release issued on Saturday, the ABCC stated that this was resolved during the first council meeting of the year (2026) on February 27 at the Mission Centre, Kohima.
The Angami Baptist Church Council (ABCC) resolved to support the Nagaland Baptist Church Council’s (NBCC) resolution declared during the NBCC’s 89th Annual Council 2026 held at CBLT Mission Centre, Tuensang, from February 5 to 8, particularly on “Commitment to the NLTP Act and Substance Abuse Prevention.”

According to the council, the resolution read: “The NBCC reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act, 1989, and earnestly urges the Government of Nagaland to ensure its sincere, consistent, and effective implementation.
At the same time, the council resolves that its churches shall further strengthen substance abuse prevention efforts focusing on both primary prevention, through awareness and sensitization of the younger generation regarding the harmful consequences of substance abuse, and secondary prevention, by extending care, support, counselling, and rehabilitation services to individuals and families affected by substance abuse.”
Further, the ABCC stated that it recommits itself to strengthen prevention efforts through its local churches, and the Arukah Ministry — a ministry under the men's department which has been providing care, support and counselling primarily to alcoholics for over 15 years now.
“Realising that the church also has a role to play, the council further assures its readiness to extend any supportive role to the government, if it so requires, towards the effective implementation of the Act,” it added.
