Anaki Phom Volleyball Association won the Phom Monyiu Open Volleyball Tournament, defeating United Rising Sporting Club Yimchong in the final at Longleng.

DIMAPUR — Anaki Phom Volleyball Association emerged champion of the 12th Phom Monyiu Open Volleyball Tournament, defeating United Rising Sporting Club (URSC), Yimchong in the final as the four-day tournament concluded at Public Ground, Longleng.
The tournament, organised by the Longleng Town Students’ Union (LTSU) in collaboration with the Longleng District Volleyball Association (LDVA), was held from April 7 to the 10th with participation of 12 teams.
The inaugural programme was addressed by P Angam Longho, Project Officer, DRDA Longleng, who highlighted the growing importance of sports and encouraged youth to pursue it as a career with discipline and sportsmanship. He also urged young players to remain focused, learn from failures and support one another.

Shame, president of Phom Students’ Union, and LT Hentok, president of LDVA, attended the tournament as match patrons on the second and third days.
At the valedictory programme, LK Heno Khiamniungan, assistant commandant, Nagaland Village Guards, lauded the organisers for providing a platform for youth and stressed the importance of unity and sportsmanship among players and spectators.
Individual awards were presented to outstanding players, with Wonglom of Anaki Phom Volleyball Association named Best Spiker and Bauaok of the same team adjudged Player of the Tournament. Abu Okla C. Phom of URSC Yimchong was named Best Setter, while P. Shingjei of Yongphang Students’ Union won Best Libero. Hukphang Students’ Union (B) received the Best Discipline Team award.
The tournament concluded with emphasis on discipline, unity and the role of sports in youth development.
