DIMAPUR — The All Sumi Chess Championship 2026 kick-started at Niathu Resort, Chümoukedima, on Thursday, with Iloka K Shohe, President of All Sumi Games and Sports, as the special guest.
The special guest, in his speech, acknowledged the tremendous efforts put forth by the Sumi Chess Association Nagaland (SCAN) in promoting the game of chess in the state, which benefits not only the Sumi community but also the Nagas, stated an update.

He stated that despite the lack of proper infrastructure, the advancement and progress of chess among the Sumis is commendable. He opined that chess is a witty game and involves peace of mind.
Shohe also stressed the need for a proper multidisciplinary sports complex at Zunheboto and Niuland.
The SCAN also submitted a memorandum to the Sumi Games and Sports Association.
Altogether, 56 players are participating in the 13th edition of the championship, which will conclude on March 21.
