DIMAPUR — Designer and artist Aku Zeliang presented an installation at the historic Toorji ka Jhalra, an 18th-century stepwell in Jodhpur, as part of the Jodhpur Arts Week organised by the Public Arts Trust of India.
According to an update, the installation includes three large handwoven vessels inspired by the traditional Rajasthani surahi and made in collaboration with Jodhpur’s artisans.
Woven on-site, the work reflects an exchange between the craft traditions of Nagaland and Rajasthan. Zeliang, who was born in Nagaland and raised in Rajasthan, is connected to both regions.
Based on his ongoing Huh Tu series, which draws from Naga tattooing traditions, it was stated that the installation highlights both cultures and their shared craft knowledge.
