DIMAPUR — Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) of Sechü-Zubza block under Kohima district conducted demonstration on cultivation practices of French beans as well as on scientific method of transplanting cabbage and broccoli for higher yield in Jotsoma village on August 27.
An update from ATMA Sechü-Zubza stated that the resource person, Ketsivino Nakhro, ATM, highlighted the health benefits of French beans and covered various aspects on the package of practices including climate and soil requirements, field preparation, seed sowing, water management and weeding. He also elaborated on common pests, diseases and their management practices.

Additionally, hands-on demonstration on line sowing of French beans was carried out with proper spacing and importance of intercropping.
At the organic farm school, the farm school teacher, Vithato Nakhro, demonstrated on methods of field preparation for transplanting cabbage and broccoli, spacing, manuring and timely weeding.
On the same day, another demonstration on improved practices for commercial cultivation of lilium and eco-friendly IPM techniques for sustainable lilium production was conducted in Mezoma village with Thejavizonuo Kelio, ATM, as the resource person.
She shared on popular lilium varieties, propagation of lilium, technical requirement such as soil, temperature and light besides hands-on demonstration on planting. She further shared on insect-pests management techniques in lilium cultivation.
In a separate programme, ATMA of Kobulong block in Mokokchung district conducted a capacity building programme on practices of Eri for farmer interest groups (FIG) in Yisemyong village on September 2.
The resource person and extension officer of Sericulture, Nokzenketba, highlighted the importance of Eri silkworm rearing to uplift the economic condition of farmers. He explained the important growth stages of the worm and life cycle ranging right from hatching of the eggs to its maturity.
Besides, various techniques for rearing Eri-silkworm such as rearing house, disinfectant (use of formalin), incubation, brushing, late stage rearing, feeding, pest and disease management and Eri seed grainage technology were shared in detail.
On the same day, ATMA Kobulong block conducted demonstration on ‘Good agricultural practices of potato’ and ‘Production technology of field pea’ in Yisemyong village with Longham Phom, agriculture officer at State Agricultural Research Station (SARS), Mokokchung, as the resource person.
