  • DIMAPUR — The Central Nagaland Students' Association (CNSA) kicked off its 5th general conference with an introductory session on the theme ‘Power of possibilities’ at IMC Hall, Dimapur, on Thursday.

  • The special guest for the event, Advisor of Labour, Employment & Skill Development and Excise, Moatoshi Longkumer, in his address, said that the theme could not have come at a better time as today, more than ever, the youth need to remind themselves of the vast possibilities that await them.

  • Longkumer also emphasised that alongside possibilities, it is crucial to acknowledge the real and difficult challenges youth face.

  • He reminded that many of the youth are held back not by lack of talent, but by lack of opportunity.

  • However, he encouraged the gathering that where opportunities are lacking, innovation must rise, and added, “Do not wait for doors to open but build them.”

  • The advisor went on to state that Nagaland's rich diversity can be both a blessing and a challenge for youth, who often find themselves caught between tradition and modernity, struggling with identity and feeling unheard.

  • Maintaining that Nagaland’s culture is not a weakness but rather strength, he reminded the youth that the world doesn't need them to become someone else but it needs them to become proud of who they already are.

  • Longkumer also pointed out that substance abuse and mental health issues are silently harming the youth and many feel isolated and unheard, but one must remember that they are not alone. He added that struggling doesn’t make them weak but make them human and that they need to build a community that supports rather than judge.
  •
  • Further, he stated that corruption breeds frustration and doubt, especially among the young, but urged the gathering not to give in, rather to rise above it with integrity, knowledge, and courage.

  • The event featured welcome remarks from Bendang Aier, convenor of the organising committee, a brief history of CNSA by Limaakum Jamir, Administrator of Kohima Law College, and greetings from Mhondamo Ovung, chairman of Lotha Hoho.

  • The inaugural programmee of the conference will be held on June 6, with Minister for Rural Development and SIRD, Metsubo Jamir, as the chief guest.
