THENYIZUMI — Advisor for CAWD and Taxes, Kudecho Khamo, stressed the need to revive and uphold cultural, traditional and religious identity in present-day Naga society, cautioning that the erosion of identity poses a serious challenge to the community.
The advisor stated this while addressing the 72nd general session of the Thenyizumi Students’ Union (TSU) held at multi-purpose hall, Thenyizumi village, Phek district, on December 23.
Addressing the event as special guest, Khamo stressed that the family remains the foundation of a progressive society. In this regard, he encouraged families to observe ‘Family Week’ during the festive season to reflect, plan life goals and seek God’s guidance through prayer.
He said that there is no obstacle that cannot be turned into an opportunity and urged the younger generation to become creators rather than seekers.
The advisor emphasised the need for individuals to be contributors to society, adding that a positive mindset can bring positive change.
Stating that building a good society requires collective effort, Khamo highlighted the realities of a highly competitive world, whether in business, education or farming.
He said that without preparation there is no place in today’s competitive environment and stressed the need to understand reality and remain prepared.
He also advised parents not to insist that all children become government servants, encouraging them instead to explore business, entrepreneurship and project-based initiatives.
The advisor pointed out that taxes generated from businesses contribute to national development and described business as a viable and lucrative option.
Khamo further advised students not to be anxious about failing to secure government jobs or owning businesses, but to rely on God’s divine purpose, asserting that every profession carries dignity.
He warned that the loss of culture could lead to the loss of identity and expressed concern over the weakening of religious values, urging the youth to stand firm on the Bible and prayer.
Encouraging students to dream big, have vision, trust in God and work diligently, Khamo said that no matter how crowded the world becomes, there is always room for honest and hardworking individuals.
He also stressed the importance of upholding honesty and leading a prayerful life.
Honoured guest Dr. Pritpal Kaur, Superintendent of Police (SP), Phek, stressed the importance of education, stating that success is not defined by religion or gender but is achieved through hard work and dedication. She encouraged students to pursue meaningful dreams aimed at serving society.
Dr. Kaur also urged students to use mobile technology responsibly and to embrace AI and modern tools without abandoning cultural roots.
Vepozoyi Theyo, president of Chokri Area Public Organisation (CAPO) and head gaon bura of Thenyizu, cautioned about the abuse of smart phones among youngsters.
He also exhorted the students to commit to their vocation with sincerity, warning that laziness kills dreams and stressing the need for perseverance and commitment.
Earlier, presidential address was delivered by Aveto Resu, while folk songs were presented by Thenyizumi Women Society led by Vezhosalu Dawhuo, and men folk led by Nekhwuta Theyo.
On the occasion, Lt Punuhu Dawhuo Memorial Award for outstanding students in HSLC Examinations was also conferred.
A new team of TSU for the tenure 2025-26 was elected, which would be led by Besuta Vero as president, Theputhito Kezo as vice-president, and Ruvezo Swuro as general secretary, among others.
Meanwhile, on December 26, the debut Lt. Hunezo Memorial Badminton Trophy (Mens Double) was held with Medothi Rhakho, VCC Thenyizu declaring the tournament.
