Adult literacy campaign launched in Chukitong block

  • DIMAPUR — With an aim to promote literacy among adults and empowering communities through education and awareness, the Zukhumki Federation, in collaboration with the Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission (NSRLM), district administration, DHEW and Social Welfare under Mission Shakti (BBBP), launched the adult literacy campaign in Chukitong Block under Wokha district on Tuesday at Tsungiki community hall.

  • The coordinator of District Hub for Women Empowerment (DHEW), Wokha, Dr. Wonjano E Enny, provided an overview of Mission Shakti and elaborated on its aims and objectives. She spoke about various government schemes available to citizens and highlighted safety guidelines specifically designed for women.

  • A DIPR report stated that she underscored the importance of ensuring access to educational opportunities and resources for marginalised groups.

  • The senior SDEO, Raphael Zubonthung, emphasised the significance and benefits of adult literacy campaign. He highlighted how literacy could improve socio-economic conditions and enhance individual empowerment. He further encouraged widespread participation in the initiative.

  • Short speeches were also delivered by officials from the Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission, Village Development Board (VDB) of Tsungiki and Block Project Manager, Janthungbemo Ezung, each expressing their commitment to supporting the campaign and ensuring its successful implementation.

  • The president of Englan Range Women Livelihood, Thrift and Credit Cooperative Limited, Zuchobeni, shared the success story of the adult literacy campaign in Englan range, Wokha, showcasing how the initiative has positively impacted communities through skill development and financial inclusion.

  • Representatives from the VDB and GBs of Tsungiki village assured their full support in facilitating the campaign’s progress and encouraged the villagers to actively participate. They emphasised literacy as a key to social and economic advancement.

  • The programme began with a welcome address delivered by CRP-EP Lochumlo, while the treasurer of Tsungiki VLO, Lochumlo Kikon, concluded the event with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all stakeholders for their contributions and commitment.

  • The event was chaired by the general secretary of the Zukhumki Federation, Lucy Kikon, who provided insights into the campaign’s vision and the collaborative efforts required to make adult literacy accessible to all.
