Nagaland to experience active monsoon conditions, rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning from August 18 to 21, NSDMA forecasts
DIMAPUR — Active monsoon conditions are expected to continue across Nagaland from August 18 to 21, with light to moderate rainfall and localised thunderstorms and lightning forecast in several districts, according to the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA).
The four-day cumulative rainfall forecast indicates that Longleng is likely to receive the highest rainfall at 81.15 mm, followed by Mokokchung at 59.85 mm, Peren at 51.72 mm, Tuensang at 50.67 mm, Mon at 47.26 mm, Wokha at 46.78 mm and Tseminyu at 43.98 mm.
Other districts are forecast to receive cumulative rainfall ranging from 18.15 mm to 41.12 mm during the period.
According to the district-wise outlook, light to moderate rainfall is likely at a few places in Longleng and Phek on August 18, with localised thunderstorms and lightning expected over Dimapur and Peren.

On August 19, thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by light to moderate rainfall are likely over Longleng, Mokokchung, Mon, Peren and Shamator. Similar activity is forecast on August 20 over Longleng, Mokokchung, Mon, Tseminyu, Tuensang and Zunheboto.
The weather activity is expected to continue on August 21, with thunderstorms, lightning and light to moderate rainfall likely at scattered locations, particularly over Chümoukedima, Kiphire, Longleng, Mokokchung, Mon, Tseminyu, Tuensang, Wokha and Zunheboto.
The NSDMA cautioned that thunderstorms may be accompanied by lightning and brief gusty winds, while rainfall could lead to localised waterlogging, slippery roads and reduced visibility.
People living in landslide-prone and other vulnerable areas have been advised to remain vigilant, particularly in locations experiencing repeated rainfall. Motorists have also been urged to exercise caution while travelling along vulnerable and landslide-prone stretches.
Members of the public have been advised to monitor the latest weather updates through the Safer Nagaland mobile application and NSDMA Weather Portal, and to follow official advisories during periods of severe weather.
