Kohima and Tseminyu districts receive IT equipment to boost online civil registration, and Aadhaar enrolment for children is officially launched.

DIMAPUR — The Office of the District Economics and Statistics Officer, Kohima, organised a programme for the distribution of IT equipment and the launch of Aadhaar enrolment for children between zero and five years of age at its office on Wednesday.
According to a DIPR report, Secretary and Chief Registrar of Births and Deaths, Akunu Meyase, handed over the IT equipment to the representatives of the selected villages.
She underscored the importance of accurate and timely registration of vital events, stating that since 2022, registration has been mandated to be conducted online. She highlighted that birth and death records are the most critical legal documents establishing an individual's identity.
Meyase stated that reliable data from civil registration forms the basis for government planning. As part of the programme, IT equipment, including computers, printers, and internet connectivity support, was distributed to 26 villages from the Kohima district and 10 villages from the Tseminyu district to facilitate online registration.
She called upon all stakeholders to work collectively towards a complete transition to online registration.

Director and Additional Chief Registrar of Births and Deaths, Neidilhou Keditsu, stated that Nagaland adopted online registration of births and deaths in 2022 with support from the Unique Identification Authority of India through the provision of enrolment units. While appreciating the efforts of registrars, he noted that the registration of deaths remains low and called for collective efforts to achieve universal registration.
Keditsu also stressed the importance of suo moto registration and elaborated on the process of Aadhaar enrolment for children, including the required documentation.
Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, B Henok Buchem, who also serves as the District Chief Registrar of Births and Deaths, formally launched the Aadhaar enrolment for children. He called upon village leaders to take responsibility for ensuring proper enumeration during the upcoming census, noting that the first phase will begin in July, covering all households.
Highlighting the importance of Aadhaar, he stated that it has become mandatory for availing various government schemes. He urged the village leaders to create awareness within their communities and encourage enrolment.
Earlier, District Economics and Statistics Officer Theyieneinuo Belho highlighted the significance of strengthening registration systems at the grassroots level.
It was informed that for the enrolment of Aadhaar for children in the zero to five years age group, the required documents include the digitised birth certificate of the child and the Aadhaar number of either parent.
