The Pochury tribe celebrated the 60th Yishi Festival at Reguri village with cultural events and community thanksgiving.

DIMAPUR — The 60th session of the Yishi Festival, the millet and corn harvest festival of the Pochury tribe, was celebrated at Reguri village on the theme "Anchoring our culture".
The occasion was attended by Tafi Snock Phoji, state executive member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Nagaland, as the special guest. She was accompanied by Nini Cheng, Tsetsiitho Nyuthe and Yigo Pichhurii of BJP Nagaland.
According to an update, in her address, Phoji commended the Pochury community for preserving and promoting their cultural identity and urged the younger generation to take pride in their heritage while striving for progress and development.
She stated that the festival should be a symbol of forgiveness and progress and remarked that Reguri, being blessed with an abundance of flora and fauna, required the younger generation to preserve the God-gifted natural resources just as the older generations had done.

The Yishi Festival, which is also celebrated to pay homage to departed souls, featured cultural performances such as folk songs, indigenous games and modern sports, symbolising unity, thanksgiving and community spirit.
Reguri village, one of the remotest villages of the state, bordering Myanmar International Border Point-130 with a population of around 1,000, was established in 1965. This year marked the first time a woman was invited to attend the festival as the chief guest, making it a historic moment for the village.
