Over 500 NCC cadets are participating in the North East Region Trek–II at Wokha to promote outdoor activities and cultural exchange.

DIMAPUR — The North East Region (NER) Trek–II (Wokha), an all-India trekking camp, commenced on November 4 at the Assam Rifles Complex in Wokha under the aegis of the NCC Group Headquarters, Kohima.
According to an update, the eight-day camp, scheduled from November 4 to the 11th, has drawn the participation of 510 NCC cadets from Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and the Northeast states.
The camp aims to provide cadets with meaningful exposure to the natural landscapes of Nagaland, promote the pursuit of healthy outdoor activities such as hiking and trekking, and instil a deeper appreciation for nature.

It also seeks to foster a sense of achievement through the successful completion of physically challenging endeavours.
For trekking activities, the cadets have been organised into four groups undertaking day hikes in the Wokha region, including Mount Tiyi, the Doyang Water Reservoir, and New Wokha village.
The programme also incorporates cultural enrichment through visits to the Mini Hornbill Festival, organised by the Department of Art and Culture, offering cadets an opportunity to experience Nagaland’s rich heritage, diversity, and historical traditions.
Brigadier Shantanu P Mainkar, group commander, NCC Group Kohima, interacted with the cadets and formally flagged off the NER Trek–II on Wednesday.
