Five arrested in Kohima as police seize suspected counterfeit cosmetics, warn public against fake products posing serious health risks

DIMAPUR — Kohima Police have arrested five persons and seized a large quantity of suspected counterfeit cosmetic and beauty products during checks at multiple shops in the town.
According to a press release issued by the Kohima Police PRO, the action was initiated based on credible inputs regarding the sale of suspected counterfeit cosmetics.
Police conducted checks in five shops around Razhü Point and the Y-Junction area, during which products falsely marketed under reputed brand names, including Lakme, were seized.

A case has been registered at North Police Station vide Case No. 0011/2026 under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, read with Section 63 of the Copyright Act, 1957.
The five accused persons have been arrested and are currently in judicial custody, while investigation is underway.

Police stated that such activities not only violate the rights of companies but also pose potential health risks to consumers.
In a public advisory, citizens have been urged to purchase cosmetic products only from authorised sellers and verify product authenticity before use. Suspicious products may be reported to the nearest police station.
