Under the PMFME Scheme, support is extended not only to individual micro food processing enterprises but also to farmer producer organisations (FPOs), cooperatives, and self-help groups (SHGs).
The scheme provides a credit-linked capital subsidy and capacity building, as well as branding and marketing support. Capital subsidy assistance is offered for the purchase of plant and machinery and for undertaking technical civil works aimed at modernising units and promoting value addition.
Capacity building programmes are also conducted to enhance product quality, improve packaging, and ensure compliance with food safety and export standards.
Further, branding and marketing support under the scheme includes grants of up to 50 per cent of the eligible project cost for groups of FPOs, SHGs, co-operatives, or special purpose vehicles (SPVs) of micro food processing enterprises adopting a cluster-based approach.
In addition, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority provides incentives to processed food exporters, including micro food processors, through various schemes focused on infrastructure development, quality enhancement, and market expansion.
