The 4th Patkai Trophy opens at Patkai Christian College with 39 teams from Nagaland and Assam competing in sports.

DIMAPUR/KOHIMA — The 4th Patkai Trophy (Inter-Institutional Championship) commenced at Patkai Christian College (Autonomous), Chümoukedima-Seithekema, on Thursday, featuring 39 institutions from Nagaland and Assam competing across basketball, volleyball, and football.
Organised by the college from October 8 to the 10th, the opening programme was attended by Member of the Legislative Assembly and Advisor for Civil Administration Works Division (CAWD) Kudecho Khamo as the chief guest, according to an update.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Khamo urged students to identify, develop, and capitalise on their skills and talents to excel in life. He noted that while some excel in academics and sports, others possess strengths in music, leadership, creativity, technology, or entrepreneurship.
He observed that possessing talent alone is inadequate and only becomes meaningful when developed and disciplined. Khamo encouraged students to discover their strengths, sharpen their skills, and use them with confidence and purpose. Drawing lessons from sports, he stated that setbacks and failures should be viewed as opportunities to learn and prepare for upcoming challenges.
He stressed the importance of humility in victory and dignity in defeat, reminding students not to allow competition to damage friendship, integrity, and sportsmanship. Khamo also noted that alongside academic qualifications, students must develop communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills and take personal responsibility for their lives.

Recalling his student days at Patkai Christian College, Khamo shared that the institution nurtured him academically and spiritually, serving as the platform where he began his leadership journey in 1993 as president of the Chakhesang Students' Union, which eventually led him to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
Principal of Patkai Christian College Dr. Thepfuvilie Pierü stated that the championship aimed to provide a platform for students from diverse institutions to demonstrate their potential in sports while offering a break from academic workloads. He noted that sports teach resilience, humility, teamwork, patience, and determination.
