DIMAPUR — The second phase of civil defence wardens & volunteers training, organised by the Department of Home Guards, Civil Defence and State Disaster Response Force (HG, CD & SDRF), Nagaland, commenced at town hall, Mon, on Thursday.
The training, funded by the Directorate General of Fire Services, Civil Defence and Home Guards, Ministry of Home Affairs, will continue till January 29, a DIPR report stated.
Around 180 volunteers from five wards of Mon town—Thamnan, Jahjon, Santham, Tompang and Chingai—are taking part in the training.
Deputy Commissioner & Controller of Civil Defence, Mon, Wennyei Konyak, in his keynote address, thanked the government and the Department of HG, CD & SDRF Mon, for organising the training in time, stating that disaster can strike any time.
He highlighted Nagaland's manmade and natural disasters, and their societal impact.
The DC stated the training is crucial for safeguarding citizens during disasters and appealed to volunteers to learn thoroughly to handle future incidents.

“We should be proud to avail the training and saving the lives of the people,” Wennyei said.
He urged people to be prepared for disasters, expressing optimism that the training would help volunteers protect citizens’ lives.
In his short speech, president of Mon Town Students’ Union, Wangnyem Konyak said that the civil defence wardens & volunteers are unpaid trained organisation of the society. He encouraged the volunteers to learn well from the training and impart the same to their community, relatives and friends to safe life.
Earlier, Lichemse Sangtam, District Commandant, HG, CD & SDRF, Mon, welcomed everyone and urged trainees to be attentive.
Sub-inspector Lipoksashi, in his chairman's remark, encouraged trainees to interact with instructors for proper learning.
