MOKOKCHUNG — The Tuli Area Fishery Cooperative Farmer’s Producer Organisation Ltd. (TAFCFPOL) kicked off the much-anticipated second edition of TAFCFPOL fish festival at Arrow Club Ground, Tuli, on Thursday.

Nukshimatong, SDO (Civil) of Tuli, formally declared the festival open, lauding TAFCFPOL’s unwavering commitment to mobilising, capacitating, and uplifting local fish farmers.

He urged the organisation to persist in forging a resilient and sustainable fisheries ecosystem through grassroots-driven initiatives.

The two-day extravaganza pays tribute to the local fish farmers while advancing sustainable aquaculture, raising public awareness about fisheries’ pivotal role in rural livelihoods, food security, and economic empowerment.

The festival also commemorates the upcoming World Fish Day, observed globally on November 21.

In his welcome address, TAFCFPOL chairman Subonenba Longkumer expressed profound gratitude to member farmers for their dedication and highlighted fisheries as an increasingly viable and promising avenue for livelihood in the Tuli region.

Remarks were also delivered by Tatong Longkumer, District Fisheries Officer, Mokokchung; Poji, District Development Manager, NABARD Mokokchung; and Imtiomen, councillor of Tuliyong Ward.

The vibrant festival features live fish stalls, innovative value-added fish products, interactive information kiosks, live demonstrations, technical sessions on marketing, branding, and packaging, a buyers-sellers meet, FPO-SHG networking forums, angling competitions.

It also showcases cutting-edge fish farming models spearheaded by TAFCFPOL, local entrepreneurs, and women-led self-help groups.

Though World Fisheries Day is marked globally on November 21, TAFCFPOL has expanded the celebration into a two-day platform to honour farmers’ achievements, champion responsible and eco-friendly practices, and forge stronger market linkages that empower rural entrepreneurship.

On Friday, the festival will feature exhibitions, live sales, hands-on demonstrations, fun-filled games, and extensive community engagement.

TAFCFPOL has invited residents and visitors to Arrow Club Ground to celebrate and support the thriving fish farmers of Tuli.

The second edition is organised in collaboration with the Community Educational Centre Society (CECS) and supported by NABARD.
