Kohima invites applications for BBBP scholarships and National Children’s Fund education aid for eligible students.

DIMAPUR — In a move aimed at promoting girls’ education and empowerment, the Deputy Commissioner of Kohima has announced a scholarship fund of INR 2 lakh under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) programme for meritorious girl students of Kohima district.
Under the scholarship scheme, titled “Educate her, empower her,” 20 deserving girl students will be awarded financial assistance of INR 10,000 each, a DIPR report stated.
The initiative seeks to recognise academic excellence among girls and support their educational aspirations.
The scholarship is open to female students who are permanent residents of Kohima district and have passed the Class X or Class XII examinations in 2026 with a minimum of 60 per cent marks.
Preference will be given to students from economically weaker sections, orphan or single-parent families, and differently-abled students.
Applicants are required to submit a duly filled application form along with supporting documents, including mark sheets, Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC)/residential certificate, income certificate, Aadhaar card or other valid identity proof, and passport-sized photographs. The annual family income of applicants should not exceed INR1.5 lakh.

According to the notification, the selection of beneficiaries will be based on academic merit, socio-economic background, and verification by the District Level Selection Committee.

The district administration, Kohima, has urged eligible students, schools, parents, and other stakeholders to ensure that deserving girl students avail themselves of the scholarship opportunity.
Care and education aid under NCF
In another notification, the deputy commissioner of Kohima has invited applications from eligible beneficiaries under the National Children’s Fund (NCF), following the introduction of a new category, ‘Care and Education’, under the scheme.
According to a DIPR report, the category has been introduced in pursuance of communications received from the Department of Social Welfare and the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
The scheme is aimed at providing financial assistance for the care and education of children who have been orphaned or rendered destitute due to terrorist violence, Left Wing Extremism (LWE), insurgency, or cross-border firing.
The district committee, chaired by the Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, has been tasked with identifying and verifying eligible beneficiaries in the district and forwarding proposals under the scheme.
Under the NCF, beneficiaries studying up to Class XII, as well as those enrolled in ITI, diploma, computer and other similar courses, are entitled to receive financial assistance of INR 1,250 per month per child.
Students pursuing graduation and post-graduation programmes are eligible for INR 1,500 per month per child, while those undertaking professional courses such as medical, engineering and other professional studies will receive INR 1,700 per month per child.
Eligible beneficiaries have been requested to submit their applications to the district committee through the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, for necessary action.
