The 1st Nagaland Masters Table Tennis Championship in Kohima saw 44 veterans from seven districts compete, with winners advancing to the North East Masters event.

DIMAPUR — The 1st Nagaland Masters Table Tennis Championship was held on September 5 and 6 in Kohima under the aegis of the Nagaland Masters Table Tennis Association (NMTTA) and the Nagaland Table Tennis Association (NTTA).
According to an update, seven districts of the state participated, and 44 veterans competed for the team championship apart from other individual categories.
In the 40+ men’s team category, Kohima-A, comprising Vitho Neikha, James Lezietsu, Kevirielie Dzuvichu and Raju Chettri, clinched the championship title. Dimapur-A, represented by Visasier Kevichusa, L David and Temsumeren, were the runners-up, while the Mon team comprising Kethosilie Kaka Belho, A Moa Lemtur, Giitiyyi Vamuzo and Imdongzoba Kichu secured the third position.

In the 50+ men’s team category, Meluri district emerged champions with players Dr. Juthsutho Phoji, Victor Joy Ezung and Samuel Ao. Mokokchung district with players Takosunep and Tianochet finished runners-up, while Kohima-A comprising Neitsilie Meru, Joseph Lasuh, Vincent Belho and Dr. Khriezotuo Paphino finished third.
In the 40+ men’s singles, Kevirielie Dzuvichu emerged as champion, while Visasier Kevichusa finished runner-up and L Talichuba Sangtam came in third.
The 40+ men’s doubles title was won by Visasier Kevichusa and L David, with Dr. Juthsutho Phoji and Victor Joy Ezung as runners-up. Bendang Longkumer and L Talichuba Sangtam finished third in this category.
In the 50+ men’s singles, Vikuo Metha secured the championship title, while Dr. Juthsutho Phoji was runner-up and Neitsilie Meru finished third. The 50+ men’s doubles title was claimed by James Lieziestu and Vincent Belho, while Dr. Juthsutho Phoji and Victor Joy Ezung were runners-up. Vikuo Metha and Kezhaletuo Angami stood third.
In the 60+ men’s singles, Temjen Jamir emerged champion, while Vikhato Shohe was runner-up and Dr. Khriezotuo Paphino finished third.
In the 40+ and 50+ combined women’s singles category, Satemmongla Yaden claimed the championship, followed by Marysheli Zhimo as runner-up and Lichumlo in third place.
On day one of the championship, Kevithuto Sophie, speaking as the special guest, exhorted the participants on the importance of maintaining good health and fitness in continuing sports to avoid sedentary lifestyle diseases.
Saying an idle mind is a devil’s workshop, he emphasised the necessity of keeping oneself occupied with a healthy lifestyle through sports.
Kovi Meyase, speaking as the guest of honour on day two, appreciated and commended the organisers for the smooth conduct of the tournament.
He also said that Nagas are naturally gifted and suited to sports like table tennis and wished that the winners would perform well at the upcoming North East Masters Table Tennis Championship, which is scheduled to be held at Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh.
