19 schools declared tobacco-free in Mon district

19 schools in Mon district including 9 from Tizit, 3 from Mon village and 7 from Aboi were declared tobacco-free school.

DIMAPUR —  A total of 19 schools in Mon district including 9 from Tizit, 3 from Mon village and 7 from Aboi were declared tobacco-free school during a district level coordination committee (DLCC) held at the conference hall of the deputy commissioner in Mon town on Friday.


The deputy commissioner of Mon, Wennyei Konyak, who chaired the meeting, congratulated the schools and encouraged the school authorities to continue their fight against the harmful effects of tobacco. He also assured the team that more enforcement drive would be carried out even in subdivisions of Aboi and Tizit.

An update from the office of the chief medical officer (CMO), Mon, stated that the district nodal officer of National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP), Dr. Esther Chophy Ngullie, made a powerpoint presentation on the activities of the team and sought continued support of the NGOs and school authorities to protect the children from tobacco.


Report stated that the SDO (C), Ajit Kumar; CMO Dr. Supongmenla Walling; principal of Wangkhao Government College, Dr. Tialila; SDPO of Mon, Bendang Wati; DTO of Mon, Dr. Ngopelo; EACs including Mhao Humtsoe and Omajen  Ozukum, MCCI  members, school authorities and teachers and DEO office staff  attended the meeting.
