MOKOKCHUNG — The 18th Imchaba Master Memorial Nagaland Open Volleyball Trophy commenced at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex, Mokokchung, on Tuesday, featuring 13 teams competing for the title.


In the opening match, reigning champion MH-10 Kohima faced the 2023 third-place winner, Chienino Brothers Kiruphema ‘A’. MH-10 defeated them in straight sets, 25–16, 25–18, displaying strong attacks and solid defence that left Kiruphema unable to respond.


In the second match, Longsa Sporting Club, Mokokchung, overcame Shikaho Memorial Club (SMC) in straight sets (25–17, 25–20). The first set was tied at 9–9 before Shikaho’s coordination issues allowed Longsa to take control and win 25–17.

In the second set, Shikaho fought back until one of their players sustained an ankle injury mid-rally, which affected their momentum. Longsa capitalised and secured the match 25–20.


VOLLEYBALL

In the third match, Southern Angami’s withdrawal gave Evergreen a walkover.


In the fourth match, Fly High Tuensang defeated Chienino Brothers Kiruphema ‘B’ in straight sets (25–20, 25–21). Fly High displayed strong serves and coordination through players Chiba, Sangle, and Moa to take the first set 25–20. The second set remained close until Fly High broke the deadlock at 21–21, sealing the match 25–21.


The tournament was inaugurated by special guest Sentinenla, district education officer, Mokokchung, who commended the Mokokchung District Volleyball Association (MDVA) for its continued efforts in promoting grassroots sports.


She encouraged youth to engage in constructive activities such as sports, which instil discipline, unity, and leadership. She highlighted that the tournament is the most prestigious event honouring the legacy of late Master Imchaba. Sentinenla also praised the organisers and teams for demonstrating unity, strength, and resilience, urging them to compete with passion and integrity.


VOLLEYBALL
Longsa Sporting Club Mokokchung and Shikaho Memorial Club in action during the 18th Imchaba Master Memorial Nagaland Open Volleyball Trophy at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex, Mokokchung, on Tuesday.


Following the inaugural programme, the Championship Trophy was handed over by defending champion MH-10 Kohima, and the tournament was officially declared open.


The prize structure includes INR 1,00,000 for the champions, INR 70,000 for the runners-up, INR 30,000 for third place, and INR 20,000 for fourth place. Awards of INR 5,000 each will be given for Best Spiker, Best Setter, and Player of the Tournament.
