DIMAPUR — Fifteen Nagaland tribal hohos have backed the proposal to upgrade the Foothills Road into a two-lane National Highway, urging the state government to fast-track the process with the Centre.
In a joint statement, the presidents of 15 hohos welcomed the consensus reached during the April 7 consultative meeting convened by the state government in Kohima, and reaffirmed their support for the long-pending infrastructure project.
Calling for urgent action, the tribal bodies pressed the government of Nagaland to expedite necessary proposals and take up the matter with the government of India at the earliest “to translate the consensus into concrete action.”

They also assured full cooperation in facilitating the project on the ground, including engaging with landowners to ensure smooth and mutually acceptable land acquisition for the proposed two-lane highway.
At the same time, the hohos appealed to the Nagaland Foothills Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC) to exercise patience and allow the government reasonable time to move the process forward.
Highlighting the need for dialogue, they urged both the state government and the NFHRCC to engage constructively to arrive at an amicable solution in the larger interest of the public.
