120 National Service Scheme volunteers in Dimapur completed Yuva Aapda Mitra training under NDMA to enhance disaster preparedness.

DIMAPUR — The National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers underwent training on the "Yuva Aapda Mitra Scheme" as the first batch under the preparedness of the National Disaster Response at the Central Training Institute (CTI), Home Guards, Civil Defence and SDRF, Toluvi, Dimapur.
Ruokuovituo Zatsu, State NSS Officer, Nagaland, informed that 120 NSS volunteers joined this first batch programme from July 14 to the 20th, which was organised by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Ministry of Home Affairs, according to an update.
Avinuo, Commanding Officer of CTI, addressed the inaugural programme on July 14, while M Yingnyei Konyak, Deputy Commandant, chaired the programme.
The programme was held in collaboration with Home Guards, Civil Defence, and the State Disaster Response Force. Certificates were awarded to the volunteers after the completion of the training programme.
The primary objective of the Yuva Aapda Mitra Scheme is to instil a spirit of voluntary contribution among the youth and to systematically engage them in disaster management activities through a structured institutional mechanism.

It may be recalled that NDMA launched the 'Yuva Aapda Mitra Scheme' to train 2,37,326 young volunteers from youth organisations such as the National Cadet Corps (NCC), Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), Bharat Scouts and Guides (BS&G), and the National Service Scheme (NSS) in 315 districts of 28 states as first responders to disaster preparedness and response.
Training of 1,300 trainers (ToTs) was conducted for previously trained volunteers under the Up-scaling of Aapda Mitra Scheme (UAMS).
