Langpangkong Students’ Conference observed its foundation day in Mokokchung, awarding academic excellence and promoting clean elections.

DIMAPUR — The Langpangkong Students’ Conference (LKM) marked its foundation day on June 21 with the presentation of the Lt. L Pangersowa Jamir Trust Award for Academic Excellence to Akummeren Longkumer Wameken, who ranked in the top five, and Mereninla Pongen Mongsenyimti, each receiving a cash prize and certificate.
According to an update, the programme was held on the theme of “Clean Election” at the Chuchuyimlang Town Baptist Church Jubilee Memorial Hall in Mokokchung, with special guest Dr. Yashizungla Yaden, post-graduate teacher (PGT), Mayangnokcha Govt. Higher Secondary School.
Speaking on the occasion in the first session, the special guest spoke about how technology and artificial intelligence have brought new knowledge but emphasised the importance of using them wisely. She advocated for the inclusion of vocational skills in education and urged the government to promote such knowledge.
Imlinok, president of LKM, delivering the welcome address, recounted the history of the LKM and its founding pioneers — Lt. L L Yaden Merangkong, Lt. Obangtemjen Chuchyimlang, Lt. Imsongto Merangkong, and Lt. L Pangersowa Jamir Akhoya.
It was mentioned that the four leaders came together with a shared vision on July 22, 1948, striving for the unity and upliftment of Langpangkong students for a brighter future with a great vision.

Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) general secretary Satemmongba expressed his appreciation for the LKM, stating that the organisation has consistently extended support to AKM in its efforts to uplift the student body and back various initiatives aimed at the betterment of society.
He commended the LKM for its role in addressing critical issues such as school visitation and the shortage of teachers, supporting the LKM Road Coordination Committee in inspecting the ongoing NH-02 and Foothill road infrastructure, halting illegal taxes, and advocating for reservation review through the 5 Tribes Committee.
He emphasised the need for both organisations to stand firm and continue working diligently for these vital causes.
The second session featured a speech competition on the theme with seven finalists competing, with Temjenzulu Akhoya Students’ Union securing first position and Sangtoba Merangkong Students’ Union securing second position.
The judges were Luen, associate pastor at CBA; Lanumenla, teacher at RC Chiden Government High School; and Imlirenla, senior faculty at the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT).
The speaker, Pastor Temjen Longkumer, emphasised that clean elections are aligned with God’s will, reminding that honesty and integrity should govern society.
Without these values, pride, selfishness, and disrespect will prevail. The speaker urged both the village councils and students’ unions to stand firm for clean and honest elections and to reject the practice of selling votes.
