Dimapur, October 30: Zelaingrong Youth Front (ZYF) has accused Manipur chief minister, O Ibobi Singh, of attempting to stir communal disharmony by inciting one community against another by taking up controversial issues.
ZYF president Titus Kamei cited plan for declaration of Sadar Hills as a revenue district and upgradation of Jiribam to full-fledged district status by slicing some Zeliangrong villages out of Tamenglong district with deliberate intention to vitiate peaceful atmosphere.
Stating that the stand of the Zeliangrong and Naga people on its ancestral land has been already made it very clear to the State government on numerous occasions, ZYF urged the State government to drop the plan to declare Sadar Hills and Jiribam as full-fledged revenue districts just to please some groups of people at the cost of the Zeliangrong people and its land prior to restoration of Zeliangrong areas to its parent Tamenglong district.
It pointed out that the State government was well aware of the fact that the Ministry of Home, Government of India, had issued directive vide No.9/15/89-CD/CEN dated 14th May, 1990 addressed to RK Ranbir Singh, the then Chief Minister of Manipur, for merger/restoration of Zeliangrong villages to its parent Tamenglong district which presently falls in Sadar Hills by bifurcation made during the creation of Sadar Sub-Division in Senapati district in 1933.
Instead of restoration of the bifurcated Zeliangrong areas to parent district, ZYF accused the State government of trying to take away more areas of Zeliangrong land, which it said is not acceptable and will react it in befitting manner.
It also stated that Zeliangrong people living within the jurisdiction of Sadar Hills under the aegis of a “Committee Against the Creation of Sadar Hills” had demonstrated strong objection to the State government plan to create Sadar Hills as a revenue district by organizing a “mega public rally” on November 17, 2011 in State Capital, Imphal.
Zeliangrong Youth Front has urged urged the State government to stop such anti people policy for the sake of peace and understanding to prevail. It said any negative consequences out of the wrong decision will be the sole responsibility of the State government.
