Dimapur, November 3: The Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF) has accused the Rongmei Naga Council Manipur (RNCM) of ‘defending and covering up violent and unlawful activities’ allegedly committed by the latter’s youth wing, the Rongmei Naga Youth Organization Manipur (RNYOM).
A note from the ZYF on Thursday stated that “such allegation of desperate intention purposefully” was to damage the “good reputation of the ZYF president by RNCM just to defend and cover up the anti social and unlawful activities of RNYOM...”
The note was appended by G Golmei, assistant secretary of the ZYF.
The ZYF stated that the RNCM “if at all is concern for suffering of common people should have expressed shocked and condemnation” at the reported abduction of an elderly person R. Katangam, the chief/chairman of Namthanjang village on the night of 28th October. He was kept in captivity for the whole night, “subjected to severe physical torture, meted out mental harassment, obtained signatures on plain papers, threatened with dire consequences and to withdraw court case pending in the honourable court etc.,” the press release from the ZYF stated.
The ZYF accused the RNYOM of indulging in “various forms of unlawful and violent activities” during the last few months “till date under the guidance of RNCM which is well known to all the people of all walks of lives.”
The ZYF also stated that the law-enforcing agency was not taking appropriate action against “these criminals who are seemingly free to commit any kind of crimes under the guise of pseudo organizations till date...”
