Dimapur, Jan. 13: The Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF) has blamed the Manipur government for the reported ‘indiscriminate firing’ that reportedly occurred at Khumji village on January 12 in Manipur. A civilian, Dikhonang Gonmei of Cheangdai village died at the spot while three persons were injured, the ZYF stated in a press release on Friday.
The ZYF stated: “The indiscriminate firing incident resorted to by the security forces escorting the trucks convoy carrying different commodities which occurred at Khumji village on 12th January, 2017 when the convoy carrying different items were heading for Imphal on the NH. 37 by defying the Naga people launching of democratic agitation following alleged attacked by unidentified gunmen is the creation of the Manipur government.”
The organization asserted that the incident was not the first instance that the security forces had resorted to indiscriminate firing “purposefully to kill” innocent Naga members.
The press release also alleged that the government of Manipur had been deploying security forces to escorts the trucks and other vehicles carrying commodities bound for Imphal with additional central security forces being provided by the government of India “without any avenue being created for dialogue to end the agitation.”
The ongoing economic blockade has crossed more two months by now but the government of Manipur “with the suppressive and oppressive policy” is still deploying security forces, “by allowing the security forces to attack and killed the innocent Naga public,” the organization stated.
The ZYF stated further that the government of India not intervening and initiating measures to end the ongoing agitation “amounts to inviting for a worse situation therefore the Naga people should be ready to face any eventuality.”
‘Many Nagas had been killed and inhumanly tortured by the security forces of the Manipur government whenever the Naga people raised objection to Manipur government wrong, oppressive and suppressive policy, it added.
The ZYF’s General Secretary Donponang Daimai appended the press release.
