Dimapur, June 18 (EMN): Seven villages in Zunheboto districts have resolved to support the forest department towards conserving and protecting the forest and wildlife. The villages have made this resolution during an awareness programme on conservation and protection of forest and wildlife organised by wildlife division, Dimapur, on June 16 held at Aizuto mission compound.
About 60 participants comprising of village council chairmen along with members, GBs and DBs from seven villages, students, teachers, officials and staffs from wildlife wing attended the programme.
The chairperson of the programme and Dimapur wildlife warden, Caroline K Angami, has exhorted the participants to be the champion and ambassador for wildlife and nature. Stating that God has granted the human being to be stewardship of all His creation, she said “we are all responsible to take care of it.”
In his speech, YM Jami, conservator of forests, northern territorial circle, Mokokchung, and special invitee of the programme, has lauded the efforts of seven villages of Aotsakili, Lokobo, Naghuto (old & new), Vekuho (old & new), Askhuto villages in coming together to protect and preserve the forests and wildlife by contributing their land for a common community reserved forests. He stated that 88.3% of forests lands in Nagaland are privately owned by individual, communities or villages. He, therefore, stated that the communities and the villages should shoulder greater responsibilities towards protection and preservation of forests and wildlife.
He also insisted that it should be the bounden duty of each individual to protect and conserve forests and wildlife as the survival of human race depends on the survival of plants and animals. He has appealed to all the participants to protect and conserve forest and wildlife for its sustenance to meet the needs of the future generation.
PCCF (wildlife) and CWLW, Satya Prakash Tripathi, in his speech, has appealed to the participants for cooperation and coordination with the department for protection, preservation and management of forests and wildlife.
Short speech was also delivered by Tokaho, DFO, Zunheboto, who shared the success story of Sukhai CCA and how the people are going to reap economic, social and environmental benefits under CSR (corporate social responsibility) initiatives. Stating that Atoizu area has been selected under JICA project, he has asked the people to document various species of flora and fauna found in their forests and to contact his office for any issues, problems or assistances.
Short speeches were also delivered by Khehoto, head GB of Lokobo village, and Inashe, GB of Aotsakili village. They have thanked the department and the government for recognition of the community reserved forests and assured of their fullest support, cooperation and coordination with the department towards protection, preservation and conservation of forests and wildlife within their jurisdiction.
A short movie on wildlife conservation was also screened to the participants.
