A firefight between rival ZUF factions at Khumji village in Manipur’s Noney district left one person dead and six injured on Saturday.
IMPHAL — A fresh firefight between two rival factions of the Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) broke out in Manipur’s Noney district early Saturday, leaving at least one person dead and six others injured, according to sources.
The incident reportedly took place at around 6 am at Khumji (Lukhambi-4) village under Noney Police Station, where members of ZUF-Kamson and ZUF-Jenchui allegedly exchanged fire.
According to sources, all the casualties were from the ZUF-Jenchui faction.
The deceased was identified as Jangailing Gonmei, 37, of Taosang Pinjang village, who reportedly died at the spot.
Six others sustained injuries in the firefight. The injured were initially treated at Noney before being referred to a hospital in Imphal for further medical attention, sources said.
The latest incident reportedly occurred barely a day after another encounter between the two rival factions at Oktan village in Noney district.
