In one of the strongest statements of assertion declaring geo-political identity, the Zeliang People’s Organization of Nagaland (ZPO) has said that no other organization shall determine the welfare and future of “indigenous Zeliang people of Nagaland”. The ZPO is the only competent organization to address the concerns of the Zeliang in the state, the organization said on Thursday.The ZPO issued a press release on Thursday, June 18 making the statement. The organization took strong note that a publication claiming to be “Zeliang customary law” was recently. The ZPO of Nagaland has yet to publish any documentation on the values, traditional practices, and customarily law of the Zeliang people.
“As such, a printed material averred as Zeliang customary law and supposedly claimed to have been released on May 28, 2015 under the aegis of an incompetent set up, itself was an act of deception and affront that the Zeliang people do not acknowledge”, the community apex said.
The Zeliang People’s Organization of Nagaland conducted an executive meeting in Jalukie town on June 5 and upheld a resolution of the organization’s general meeting that was conducted on August 23, 2012.
The resolution stated: “…that any matter concerning the welfare of Zeliang People of Peren District shall be solely responsible by the Zeliang People’s Organization Nagaland and no other organization is competent to do so, as such, no organization shall be allowed to determine the future of indigenous Zeliang people of Nagaland”.
“This resolution was earlier reaffirmed in the emergency executive meeting in Jalukie town on the January 19, 2014,” the organization stated. The Thursday statement from the ZPO stated: In reiterating that the ZPO (N) is the only competent Organization to address any matter concerning the Zeliang people of Peren district it is enlightened that during this dominant period, the ZPO (N) is yet to publish any documentation on the values, traditional practices, and customarily law of the Zeliang people.

Therefore, the organization stated, while the Zeliang people’s organization of Nagaland continues to ‘prevail as guardian of the native Zeliang people in all respects, it is also elucidated that the schemers themselves, in a straight line, are accountable on the ignominy of that instance’.
