Dimapur, Mar. 3 (EMN): The Nagaland Zoological Park (NZP), near Dimapur, observed World Wildlife Day on Mar. 3 in the park with Dr. Prabhat Kumar, district forest officer of the Doyang plantation division, as the chief guest of the programme.
This was stated in a press release issued by Obed Bohovi Swu, the director of Nagaland Zoological Park.
Students from Logos College and school children surrounding the Zoological Park participated in the celebration. The World Wildlife Day was celebrated with the theme “Big cats: predators under threat.”
The chief guest delivered a discourse to the gathering about the importance of ‘big cats’ (large animals in the feline family such as lions, tigers, leopards etc.) in the ecosystem, and how they help in maintaining balance in the forest ecosystem. He talked also about the various threats the big cats face.
Photo frames showing captive big cats of Nagaland Zoological Park were presented to the participating college and guests to mark the occasion.
The director of the Nagaland Zoological Park also spoke about the Royal Bengal Tiger and the leopard housed in the park and how the park was helping in spreading publicity about wildlife conservation.
