Kohima, August 31 (EMN): Ziekezou SC defeated bottom place Power Comm FC 2-1 to win the first edition of the Kohima Football League on the final day of the season at Kohima local ground on Thursday.
With the win, league leaders Ziekezou SC have 15 points from seven matches and Ating Konyak is the highest goal scorer (4 goals) for the team.
During the match, Ziekezou SC took the deserving lead through Mhasibeituo Yhome as Hitovi latches a cross into his path and he coolly slotted the ball into the empty net in the 20th minute.
Kekhrieletuo Tsira made the lead comfortable in the second half when his teammate gave a through ball and he converted the second goal.
Power Comm managed to pull a goal back through Yhunshalo Kemp in the 78th minute. Kemp should have leveled the scoreline in the last quarter but he shot the ball wide.
The match ended in favour of Ziekezou SC 2-1 at the end of the final whistle.
Power Comm were a better team in the second half but the team lacked the finishing touch as they had to end their season with another defeat in the hands of the league leaders.
Luck was not with Ating Konyak as he got numerous chances to give the lead for Ziekezou but failed to find the back of the net throughout the match.
Ziekezou SC on their way to the title did lose the first two matches in the league but remained undefeated in five consecutive matches.
At the end of the Kohima Football League season, New Market secured the second place of the Kohima Football League table with 12 points (+3 goal difference) while United 16 FC (11 points) on better goal difference (+6) is in the 3rd position and Khriekesa FC (11 points) are in the 4th position respectively.
KTC Cup 2017 to begin today
The Kohima Football League Trophy-cum-KTC Cup 2017 will start on Friday, September 1 at 1:30 pm at Kohima local ground. KTC Cup 2017 will be played from September 1 to 9 where the eight clubs will compete in the KTC Cup 2017 on knockout basis.
The KTC informed that only three players will be allowed to play in the first eleven in a match.
K.Neibou Sekhose, president, Kohima district football Association will grace the occasion as the special invitee. All the participating clubs are requested to attend the Inaugural function of the First KTC Cup 2017
