Kohima, August 30 (EMN): Ziekezou SC are the champions of Kohima Football League thanks to New Market FC’s 2-1 win against United 16 on Wednesday.
New Market FC dominated the game and looked in complete control at 2-0, but United pulled one back in the extra time to make it 2-1 at the end of the final whistle.
The result means Ziekezou SC wins the KFL with 12 points on better goal difference (+10) with a game remaining against bottom place Power Comm FC on Thursday. A win or loss on the last day will not make any impact on the points tally for Ziekezou SC unless Power Comm scores more than eight goals to give New Market the title.
While New Market win will put them in the second place of the Kohima Football League with 12 points (+3 goal differences). United 16 FC and Khriekesa FC are in the 3rd and 4th position respectively at the end of the Kohima Football League season.
In a one sided match, Achamo Shitio opened the account for New Market through a spot kick conversion in the 28th minute, after Rhitso Mero was brought down by a defender inside the area, the referee awarded a penalty and Achamo Shitio converted the penalty.
With a goal lead, New Market didn’t defend but started the counter attack in the second half and resulted in another penalty after the defender conceded a penalty for a fault against Achamo Shitio, and Chisie Nyusou converted the penalty in 61st minute to become the highest scorer of Kohima Football League with 7 goals from 7 matches.
Beshang pulled one back in the extra time but it was too late for the team as New Market held on for the win.
During the match, three yellow cards were awarded to Chisie Nyusou, Longshebemo Tungoe of New Market FC and Hekato of United 16 FC.
Kevithuto Sophie, AIG Supply, PHQ was the match patron for the day.
The Kohima Town Club informed that Kohima Football League Trophy-cum-KTC Cup 2017 will be held from September 1 from 1:30 pm onwards at Kohima local ground.K.Neibou Sekhose, president, Kohima district football Association will grace the occasion as the special invitee.
