Dimapur, March 4 (EMN): The Zeme Youth Organisation of Nagaland (Zyon)has clarified that it had diverted traffic from a road in Peren district due to unabated extortion activities, harassment and extortion at gun point in the area.
The organisation issued a press release to the media on Monday offering updates.
The Zeme youths ‘took up the task’ of diverting commercial vehicles along the shortcut at Pimla junction road since January 14 2019, the press release stated.
“This was necessitated owing to unabated unauthorised illegal taxation, harassment and extortion of commuters along the route at gun point for a decade since the opening of this road in 2009 which had caused hue and cry among the general public of Peren district.”
The organisation stated that it was “well aware that this had caused inconvenience to one and all but to travel securely and stop looting of innocent public of their hard earned money by some misguided elements along the route is the right of the citizens of Peren district.”
The organisation has expressed regret for the inconvenience that may have been caused ‘in the process of our fight for justice and against anti social elements.’
The ZYON has expressed appreciation for ‘the stand of Aqahuto Area GB Union (ATKK) in admitting their mistakes of not controlling such illegal activities under their nose in the past for so many years.’
‘Joint meetings of the ATKK and Zyon with Zeme Council of Nagaland were held twice on 23rd February and 2nd March. Following the assurance of the ATKK to take responsibility of stopping such illegal activities and crimes along the route in future in writing, the Zyon lifted the restrictions from 2nd of March 2019.’
