Dimapur, Aug. 5 (EMN): An organisation has denounced what it alleged was “unnecessary problems” reportedly created by the NSCN (IM).
The All Zeliangrong Students’ Union (AZSU) issued a press release on Sunday condemning what it called ‘disturbances’ created by the NSCN/GPRN (IM). According to the AZSU, the armed cadres along with ‘deputy kilonser’ Thailik threatened the students’ leaders and tried to disrupt the election process of Zeliangrong Students’ Union’s office bearers at the Circuit House in Tamenglong district.
The organisation stated that the ‘deputy kilonser’ even strongly warned the students’ leaders that the armed cadres would intercept and conduct thorough checking. They were threatened stating that ‘consequences’ would be worse in case the election is held.
“Such intimidation, disturbances and interference by the NSCN/GPRN (IM) which has been engaging in peace negotiation with the government of India but rather meddle into the affairs of the Zeliangrong students organisation which is one of the oldest students’ body in the region by taking advantage of the peace talk is never expected of which deliberately act carried out may spoil the peaceful atmosphere. The NSCN/GPRN (IM) armed cadres also instigated some confused and irresponsible individuals to disrupt the peaceful holding of the said election,” the union stated.
“Threatening the students’ leaders and interfering into the affairs of students is nothing but to obstruct the progress of education in Zeliangrong society and also an act to suppress the fundamental rights of the students added the statement,” the press release added.
The Zeliagrong students’ leaders stated that their maintain peace should not be considered as a sign of weakness. They stated that they are just tolerating the situation just to maintain peace.
The organisation has demanded that the authorities intervene into the matter so that such disturbance from a group does not reoccur.
Ultimatum
A statement that is understood to be related to the issue was also received here on Sunday. The statement was issued by the Zeliangrong Students’ Union of Manipur (ZSUM); addressed to the Union Home minister and the chief minister of Manipur.
The organisation stated: ‘The Zeliangrong civil organizations have submitted a joint memorandum today and served an ultimatum giving 72 hours dateline from 5th midnight of August, 2018 to the honourable Union Home minister of India and chief minister of Manipur to book the cadres and functionaries who were involved in the abduction/picked up and subsequent captive of the youths and students leaders on 4th August, 2018 by the NSCN/GPRN (IM) at Tamenglong district.’
The statement alleged that the youths and students leaders were abducted by the NSCN/GPRN (IM) under the directive of one Sangailung Kamei, central administrative officer (CAO) Zeilad region, assisted by a Thailik alias Joel, ‘deputy kilonser’ and one Khangdi, “capt.”
The abducted youth and students’ leaders were allegedly held captive in a house of one Aduana Kamei then, also stated to be a functionary of the NSCN/GPRN (IM), at Tamenglong district.
They were stated to have been released only when the state and central security forces “intervened” into the matter and rescued the innocent youth and student leaders of which timely action is highly appreciated.
The statement added: “In the event of failure to book those NSCN/GPRN (IM) cadres and functionaries by the Govt. of India within the dateline mentioned above then the Zeliangrong civil societies shall be compelled to resort to various kinds of democratic agitations in collaboration with other likeminded civil organizations in order to save the life and security of the citizens.”
The statement was appended by the state secretary of the ZSUM.
