- DIMAPUR — The Zeliang Students' Union (ZLSU)
officially launched its native village visitation programme aimed at the
communities of the Zeliang tribe in Nagaland on Monday.
- The programme, themed "Uniting roots, igniting
future", emphasises a collective societal effort to reconnect with
cultural roots and address several pertinent issues, stated a press release.
- President Roland, on the occasion, stated that the
visitation is aimed at addressing key issues: understanding the ground
realities of local schools in the village, raising awareness about the use of
the RTI Act, promoting forest conservation, and strengthening the community and
cultural bonds that unite the Zeliang people.
- He also stated that, as the students' union, the union's top
priority is the welfare of the student community. Through this visit, the union
believes it can better understand the ground realities faced by underprivileged
students in local schools, which will enable the union to raise these concerns
with the higher authorities.
- Akuna, joint secretary of the Nagaland Zeliang People
Organisation, exhorted the union to work tirelessly for community progress and
unity. He lauded the ZLSU for its initiative and stressed the importance of
protecting the land and its resources.
