Chief Minister T R Zeliang has expressed shock on learning the demise of Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in New Delhi this morning. In his condolence message, T R Zeliang said, “I recall the numerous contributions made by him to the nation. A seasoned politician and an outstanding Statesman, Shri. Sayeed had a charming personality and commanding aura whose very presence had a soothing effect during the volatile situation in the State of Jammu & Kashmir. Pragmatic person that he was, he demanded that the Union Government start unconditional dialogue to solve the Kashmir problem. This was keenly observed by the Nagas who have also gone through half a century of political turmoil.”
T R Zeliang then said that in this era, where regional political parties have begun to dominate national politics, Sayeed was an undisputed figure in Jammu & Kashmir whose political decisions were taken seriously by the nation as a whole. He was a leading light in the political firmament of the country, and the vacuum created by his demise will be difficult to fill up, he added.
“I, on the behalf of the Government and the people of Nagaland, join the Nation in mourning the death of a great Statesman and pray to the Almighty to grant solace and comfort to the bereaved family members at this hour of sorrow and grief. May his departed soul rest in eternal peace.”
Lok Sabha MP Neiphiu Rio has expressed shock on learning the demise of Mufti Sayeed, who was the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Neiphiu Rio, late Sayeed was one of the tallest leaders in the State of Jammu and Kashmir and a recognized leader even at the national level. He was a symbol of regionalism and never wavered from his principles and ideologies, Rio said. He has made significant contributions towards peace, unity and nation building throughout his political career which spanned several decades. “As the sitting Chief Minister of J&K and being one of the most seasoned leaders, he still had much contributions to make towards the people of Jammu and Kashmir and the nation. The void created by his demise will be difficult to fill and the State of J&K and the nation as a whole has lost a leader who has positively contributed towards the growth of India.”
The Lok Sabha MP from Nagaland said that though late Sayeed has passed away, his contributions will be remembered by the country for all times to come. His message of peace, understanding and healing touch needs to be pursued in order to bring about permanent peace and brotherhood not just in the State of Jammu and Kashmir but throughout the country, Rio added.
“On my own behalf and on behalf of the State of Nagaland, I extend deepest condolences to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and to the members of the bereaved family. We pray to Almighty God to let the departed soul rest in eternal peace,” the message said.
