Dimapur, Dec. 20 (EMN): Zeliangrong Catholic Youth Association Nagaland (ZCYO) has organised a three-day music camp cum talent night at St. Xavier Parish, Jalukie, from December 13 to 16.
The programme began with an introductory session in which Azubo N Dominic, ZCYAN president, welcomed the delegates from eight churches under ZCYAN and encouraged them to proclaim the word of God through music. Quoting St. Augustine “One who sings prays twice,” he said music is an integral part of any worship to be of meaning and completion.
Aloibe Alex, ZCYAN advisor, expressed contentment on the youth coming together to learn music and encouraged the delegates to impart the knowledge of music as they return to their respective churches. He said the youth and younger generations of today were fortunate to be part of such music camp, which was not seen in earlier days.
Participants were taught basic lessons on tonic sol-fa, guitar and piano. It culminated with a talent night on December 16. The resource persons of the music camp were Kesiahing Samuel, Heguilung Abraham and Crispin Ruangmei.
Speaking on the talent night event, special guest Dannis Sema, administrative officer of Life Insurance Corporation, Dimapur, said
“Everybody is gifted with talent whether he/she maybe from an urban area or a rural area.” He also stressed on the importance of religious organisations bringing change in the society.
Rev. Fr. G Lawrence Khing, NCYM director, encouraged the youth to live a life of simplicity and humility that reflect the values of Christ. He said most young people today, who live in cities, tend to forget the ways and lifestyles of their parents and the local people.
The talent night was marked by performances from NCYM choir, choral presentation by various CYA units, choreography, duets, solos, dance, mimes, etc.
Dr. Fr. Francis Cheerangal, principal of St. Xavier College, invoked God’s blessing and Pauyirang Gerald Sephe pronounced the vote of thanks.
