Dimapur, Sep. 2 (EMN): Zeliangrong civil organizations consisting of Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam, Manipur, and Nagaland), Zeliangrong Youth Front (Assam, Manipur,and Nagaland), and Zeliangrong Students’ Union have strongly condemned the alleged assault meted out to Luangreng village leaders by the NSCN (IM) on Sep. 1.
A press statement issued by the ZCO publicity cell on Sunday stated that seven members of Luangreng village were beaten-up on charge of allowing ZUF cadres to stay in the village.
‘The NSCN (IM) demanded the village authority to immediately bring a pig for their meal. They then physically assaulted the village leaders for being late in getting back to them,’ the press release stated.
In a separate incident, on Aug. 26 at around 1 am, the organisation stated that about 10 cadres of NSCN (IM) barged into Kaningdai Riamei’s house and assaulted him.
They also claimed that the cadres harassed his wife and children at Tousemjang, Khoupum.
To express resentment on the act of the NSCN (IM), the public of Khoupum areas and Luangreng village organized a public rally on Aug. 27 at Khoupum and on Sep. 2 at Luangreng village, according to the press release.
While condemning the act of the group’s “torturing” the public, the organisation said it has created fear psychosis in the minds of the innocent public.
The ZCO asserted that ‘the NSCN (IM) should not blame the innocent village authority and general public for the presence of cadres of any underground outfits including ZUF in the village.’
Stating that the NSCN (IM), which is in negotiation with the Govt. of India and on ceasefire ground, the ZCO alleged that the group entering into villages and disturbing the peaceful environment is in violation of ceasefire ground rules.
The ZCO said that ‘the Govt. of India shall bear the responsibility for the severe torture meted out to the innocent Luangreng village leaders and the people of Khoupum area.’
It asserted that GoI should not allow the NSCN (IM) to disturb the peaceful and conducive atmosphere in the area on the pretext of factional fighting and also taking advantage of the peace negotiation.
