Dimapur, Jan. 24: The Zunheboto Town Youth Organization (ZTYO) has expressed support to the demand of the Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) to defer ULB elections in the state. In an appeal to the state government, ZTYO reminded that going against the wishes of the people is a clear breakaway from the principles of democracy. This was contained in a press release issued today. Citing the example of NPF press statement released on January 14 last which warned of 'strict disciplinary actions' to its ticket holders should they withdraw nominations heeding the calls of their respective tribal organizations, it stated that a clear divisive policy being played is apparent now with several organizations excommunicating intending candidates of their community. ZTYO stressed that it is imperative that the state government initiate necessary consultative process involving all the stakeholders to ensure that certain amendments are made before the implementation, rather than adamantly forcing through the ULB Act 2001 against the wishes of its citizens.
