Dimapur, July 22 : Citizens are reported to be undergoing transit problems owing to blocked roads leading to Zunheboto from the state capital Kohima town. Roads leading to Zunheboto via Pughoboto, Chozuba and Alaphumi have all been rendered “un-motorable” owing to heavy landslides, a community organization stated in an update on Friday.
“The only motorable (sic) road connecting Kohima and Zunheboto is the COCO Doyang road which has also been left unattended after the completion of phase-I. More than 600 students of Khelhoshe Polytechnic (of) Atoizu and (the) public of Zunheboto are facing the brunt owing to non-pliable (sic) road condition for the state bus (sic) since the phase-II is yet to start,” the Sumi Hoho informed in a press release to the media on July 22.
“The students and others those who do not have private conveyance have to walk 20 kms till the highway at Doyang junction bridge to get taxis and other forms of transportation. Many people again have to walk back if they do not get transportation. Hundreds of vehicles are also stranded along the only route due to its narrow condition.”
According to the organization, phase-I was retained during 2009-2010 under the NLCPR and work was completed. Phase-II was retained during 2011-2012 and approved by Ministry of Road and Highways in 2013.
“It is also learnt that the Nagaland government has submitted all required documents to the DoNER Ministry. In the light of the above mentioned facts, the Sumi Hoho sees no reason why the DoNER Ministry is keeping the file pending for a prolonged time causing undue hardships to the people of Zunheboto district,” the organization stated.
Calling the Doyang road the only lifeline connecting Kohima and Zunheboto, the organization has appealed to the authorities to “expedite sanctioning for the phase-II so that it may facilitate overcoming the difficulties faced by the students and the public.”
The statement was addressed to the ministry of DoNER, and the chief minister of Nagaland, and the local MLA for said area.
