Dimapur, Jan. 12 (EMN): “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love,” Zavekho Tetseo quoted Mother Teresa while interacting with the officials of CAN Youth. Zavekho Tetseo, son of Ruyucho Tetseo, a native of Lozaphusu village and presently residing in Bade village, Dimapur, is a man who is really passionate about cane and bamboo craft.
Commemorating the National Youth Day on January 12, CAN Youth, an NGO based in Dimapur which works for the youth and children development, has honoured him for his hard works which is inspirational to many youth.
After the demise of his brother Nusheto and sister in law, Zavekho had taken over the responsibility to shoulder in looking after his niece and nephew. Being a high school dropout and with just a little source of income (monetary benefits of his brother’s occupation), he was given a Herculean task of looking after schooling of his two cousins. Under severe circumstances, he had to indulge in manual labour works which granted him just INR 400 to 500 a day which could hardly suffice the daily needs.
It was in 2015, an NGO had organised a two-week vocational training for unemployed and uneducated youth, wherein Zavekho enrolled himself for the training and opted for cane crafting. Gradually, he perfected his skill during the course of training and following the training, he started to make crafts with his own idea and sell them to supplement his income. His products included furniture sets made of cane and bamboo, stools, baskets and many more. But due to financial crisis and lack of raw materials in the village and nearby, his skill and talent had to be put to rest.
For a short duration with the help of some NGOs, he got the chance to train some youth of the village in exchange of a small amount of money. He always had a dream to set up a small cane craft industry where he could manifest his skill and also make way for those who are skilled and interested in cane and bamboo craft.
Currently CAN Youth Dimapur, is supporting Zavekho to promote his products and in the form of monthly scholarship for his cousins’ education.
Today, Zavekho is no lesser than a hero as he has prioritised the needs of his niece and nephew before his needs and wants. He is raising his niece and nephew through the sweat through his hard labour by proving his love and care for the two kids even if they were not his own.
Zavekho has set a beautiful example in conveying that even though he can’t do great things for his loved ones, he is doing the best he can for them with great love.
The CAN Youth has salute him for the tremendous work and being an inspiration to many youth who always sit ideal with complain in their life.
