DIMAPUR— The Yung Aung-led NSCN (K) has split further, weeks after gunfights between the cadres at General Headquarters (GHQ) and Council Headquarters (CHQ). It was earlier reported that attempts to split had started since April this year.
President of the new group, Maj. Gen. (Retd.) Ang Mai, has appointed Lt. Gen. Langnyei Konyak as the commander-in-chief of Naga Army, with effect from July 3.
Meanwhile, the Yung Aung-led NSCN (K) group categorically rejects the formation of a new faction, describing Ang Mai and Langnyei as “proxy of the Indian intelligence to counter the NSCN/GPRN”.
“As a revolutionary organisation spearheading the Naga People's struggle, NSCN/GPRN strongly take this as an open defiance to the aspiration of the eastern Naga public for peace and stability and a direct threat to the on-going struggle,” read the press release.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]“It is a huge disappointment that these expelled members have chosen to embark on the path of violence and bloodshed despite the best effort and repeated appeal from the public. This group must abandon their selfish ambition and stop deceiving the innocent public or they will be answerable to the Naga people for any eventualities,” it added.
Maintaining that the late S.S. Khaplang was a true Naga revolutionary to the core and a leader of principle, it said taking his name in vain for personal benefit and for scoring points before the public amounts to dishonouring the legacy of the late leader.
“NSCN/GPRN deeply appreciates the strong decision taken by the eastern naga public, civil societies and student bodies to denounce this group and their activities.
“Hence with immediate effect from today, this group are sternly directed to disband and surrender themselves before the public which is the only viable way forward. The NSCN/GPRN will not co-exist with reactionary forces and will be compelled to response with appropriate action,” it stated.
