Dimapur, Dec. 17: Yimchungru Tribal Council (YTC) has vehemently condemnedwhat it termed as ‘fictitious and reckless act’ perpetrated against one of its bona fide members namely Y Kiumuhean by the 40 Assam Rifles on December 12.
YTC release said about six armed personnel, at around 6:50 PM, entered the house when Kiumuhean along with his wife, son and one friend were sitting around the hearth. It said AR personnel blindfolded the said friend and detained the victim inside the vehicle, while some personnel trespassed inside the rooms and frisked the room in the presence of the victim’s wife and his son but failed to come across any indiscriminate articles.
However, one of the AR personnel began to take out a plastic package from his pocket and took it straight to the vehicle where the victim was detained claiming to have found it from one of the rooms.
Without proof of any crime, the victim was transported to the AR’s camp and latter shifted to Tuensang Police Station on the pretext of his possession the illegal weapons. He was further evacuated to Mokokchung Police Station and detained at District Jail, Mokokchung.
YTC has condemned the act of brutality and human rights violation committed against apeace loving and innocent family members of the victim in particular and the people of the locality in general. YTC also condemned the malicious act of AR personnel infor carrying illegal weapons to wrongly implicating innocent Nagas with criminal offences.
YTC vice president S Throngso and the general secretary L Chuba urged the competent authority to release the victim immediately. While testifying him as innocent, it said he, being a public figure, is not capable of committing an offence as alleged. In the event of failure to release him immediately and without the entry of any false criminal records, YTC warned to take its own course of action.
