YRS emerge team champions of Nagaland Taekwondo Association championship

KOHIMA— The Directorate of Youth Resources and Sports (YRS), Kohima, emerged team champions of the 33rd Nagaland Taekwondo Association (NTA) championship.

The two-day event held at Pele Khezhie Indoor Stadium, Kohima, concluded on Thursday.

Team DYRS won a total 25 medals including 22 gold, a silver and bronze each to top the championship table, followed by Kohima District Taekwondo Association with 29 medals (11 gold, seven silver and 11 bronze) in runners up position.

Phek District Taekwondo Association led by Votalu Luruo as team manager won the best discipline team tag.

Director of Youth Resources and Sports (YRS), Kethosituo Sekhose, who graced the closing ceremony as guest of honour, highlighted the importance of discipline in sports and added that taekwondo is a sports discipline where players from the state can shine.

Sekhose also said that the state government under Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio is taking all steps to encourage sports in the state and the YRS department is committed to promote sports.

He also lauded NTA led by its president Pele Khezhie.

Meanwhile, Visabieu Peseyie, vice -president of NTA and state taekwondo coach informed that the association was formed in 1987 under the presidentship of Pele Khezhie. He also stated that through the sports, many players were inducted into central services and other jobs.

It was informed that as many as 252 participants from nine districts, two departments (Nagaland Police and YRS) took part in this year's championship.
